FAQs
Why Are Jean's Jams Different from Supermarket Jams?
Jean's Jams are proudly handmade in Newcastle, using traditional methods that you won't find in mass-produced supermarket jams. Each batch is crafted in small quantities using the open-pan method, where we carefully simmer our jams to preserve the natural flavours and textures of the fruit. This method allows us to give each jar the attention it deserves, resulting in a richer, more authentic taste.
What truly sets us apart is the quality of our ingredients. We use only the finest fruit, ensuring our jams are bursting with natural flavour. In fact, all of our jams are classified as 'extra jams,' which means they contain a higher fruit content than the standard offerings you might find in the supermarket. This means more real fruit and less sugar, giving you a more intense, fruit-forward taste in every jar. We believe that by sticking to these traditional methods and using only the best ingredients, we create jams that are not just different, but truly exceptional.
What is Extra Jam?
Extra jam is a special type of jam that contains a higher fruit content compared to standard jams. According to British and European regulations, for a jam to be classified as "extra," it must contain at least 45% fruit. This higher fruit content gives extra jam a richer, more intense flavour and a more authentic fruit experience. At Jean's Jams, all our jams are proudly made as extra jams, ensuring that every jar is packed with the natural goodness of high-quality fruit, delivering a superior taste that truly sets our preserves apart.
