Frequently Asked Questions
You’ve got questions, we’ve got jam-packed answers.
- What makes Jeans Jams different?
All our jams, chutneys and curds are handmade in our Newcastle upon Tyne kitchen using traditional open-pan methods and packed with fruit for rich, natural flavour.
- What is “Extra Jam”?
Extra Jam contains more fruit than standard jam—at least 45g per 100g. Ours go even further, offering a deeper, fruitier taste.
- How is Extra Jam different from regular jam?
It has a higher fruit content and less sugar, meaning more natural flavour and a better texture.
- What do you mean by “open-pan” methods?
We cook in small open pans, slowly and by hand—just like homemade. It gives us full control over quality and flavour.
- Do you make everything yourselves?
Yes, everything is made, filled and labelled by hand by our team in the North East. We don’t outsource production.
- Do you use pectin or artificial ingredients?
Only natural pectin from lemon juice or fruit. No artificial preservatives or gelling agents.
- Can I cook or bake with your products?
Yes! Jean's Extra Jams are great for baking, and our chutneys and curds are perfect for cheeseboards, desserts and more.
- How long do your products last?
Unopened, jams and chutneys last up to 2 years. Check the best before date on the back of the jar. Curds have a shorter shelf life —please check the label for dates.
- Do your jams and chutneys need to be refrigerated?
Yes—after opening, store in the fridge and enjoy within 4 weeks.
- Do your curds need to be refrigerated?
Yes — curds must be refrigerated at all times, even before opening. Use within 3 weeks of opening.
- Where can I buy your products?
You can shop online or find us in selected farm shops, garden centres.
- Do you supply wholesale?
Yes, we offer trade pricing. Contact us if you'd like to stock Jeans Jams in your shop or café.
- Do you use artificial flavours or preservatives?
No—we never use artificial flavours, colours or preservatives. Just simple, natural ingredients and lots of real fruit.
